A fish shop in Colombo street, Beckenham, was severely damaged when it was burnt out in a fierce blaze which started from fish fryers soon after 8 a.m yesterday The proprietoi of the shop Mr Ng Ar Him Lum. found on his return to the shop from a city fish market that the shop was well ablaze It was thought that fat had dripped on to the burners. He said he had lit the burners before going to the market. The premises were insured. A unit from the Sydenh n fire station quickly anSwdred a call to the fire, and with another unit from the Centra] station the blaze was extinguished. and confined to the one shop There was minor damage to paintwork on the adjacent shops on each side of the burnt-out premises. A nearby shopkeeper said the fire brigade had made an excellent save, and answered the call promptly There was a considerable danger of the fire spreading to the whole block of shops which included cycle and hardware stores.
