NEW VACCINE FOR POLIOMYELITIS

Development In Australia (N.Z. Press Am.— Copyright) MELBOURNE, February 24. A new anti-poliomyelitis vaccine—more powerful than the American Salk serum—is being developed at the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories, in Melbourne. The director of the laboratories (Dr. P. L. Bazeley) expects the new vaccine will raise the protection rate for immunised persons from 90 per cent, to 95 per cent. Clinical tests of a new antiinfluenza vaccine would also begin at the laboratories late this year. Dr. Bazeley said. The adaptation of an Ame-rican-developed' anti-measles vaccine for general use in Australia was progressing satisfactorily, he added.
