NEW POST IN WELLINGTON

1953 All Blacks Captain (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. The captain of the 1953-54 All Blacks in their tour of the British Isles. Mr R. C. Stuart, .has been appointed superintendent of agricultural* information services in the head office, Wellington, of the Department of Agriculture. This is a new post.

A public servant since 1937, Mr Stuart is at present a farm advisory officer (economics) for the department in Christchurch.

A member of the University of Canterbury Rugby Club from 1945 to 1953, Mr Stuart captained the Canterbury representative team in 1951. 1952 and 1953 and also captained the New Zealand University team to Australia in 1951.

He was captain of Canterbury when it took the Ranfurly Shield from Wellington in 1953. After his return from the 1953-54 tour of the British Isles Mr Stuert coached the University senior team in 1956 when it won its first senior championship for 16 years. In the same year he was coach of the New Zealand teams which beat South Africa in the test series.

He was coach and selector for Canterbury in 1958 and 1959. In the latter year, with Mr P. B. Vincent, he coached the Canterbury team that beat the British Isles touring team.
