LECTURER IN GEOLOGY
Dr. H. S. Edgell Arrives
Dr. H. S. Edgell, a new lecturer in the geology department of the University of Canterbury, has arrived n Christchurch.
Dr. Edgell was bom in Tasmania; but for the last six years has worked on oil exploration in the Middle East. He attended the University of Sydney, where he gained honours in his bachelor of science degree. After graduating he worked on a geological survey for the Australian Goverment and took part in exploration for oil. He left Australia for California at the time the bore was being opened up at Rough Range in the Carnarvon Basin in the north-western part of Western Australia. He took hi: doctorate at Stanford University. After work for an nil company in the United States he went to the Middle East. For the last four years he has worked in Persia. Dr. EdgeU’s chief interests lie in micro-palaentology, the study of small fossils in rocks of various ages which is ako used in oil search.
Dr. Edgell is married, with two children.
