Prinsuva Favoured For Geraldine Cup

Prinsuva has advanced in favour r the Geraldine Cup. the principal /. ,5 of the double, at the Geraldine ’ s annual meeting at Orari today. His position was consolidated yesterday after it was an nounced that Ballista would not be competing at the meeting.

Ballista, which was the early favourite for the Geraldine Cup. will contest the Melbourne Handicap, the second leg of the double at Hull Park tonight. He was taken north last evening with his stablemates. Zany. Gildirect and Gunner.

Although he has won three races this season. Prinsuva has not been successful as a two miler but his recent form for minor placings as a stayer has been sound and a win for him would be well deserved. His form on the Nelson-Marlbor-ough circuit included a second, a third and fourth from four starts over two miles. In each of these races he was giving away starts of up to 48 yards. Prinsuva is one of 11 runners off the limit today. His strongest rivals off the same mark are expected to be Calumite, Cele, Jimmy Grattan and Wee Mon. Among the handicapped horses expected to add interest to the finish are Falsehood. Terry Gowan, and Orient Night. Invitation Stakes One of the major attractions on the programme will be the Invitation Stakes, for two-year-olds. Lordship, the winner of the New Zealand Welcome Stakes at Addington last Saturday, will probably be a dominating favourite for this event?

Snow Time, which made his race debut in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes and finished second to Lordship, could again offer worthwhile opposition and Adioson. the beaten favourite in the same race but an attracting winner at the Methven trials on Tuesday, appears to have made sufficient improvement to get into a contending position at the finish.

Avante, the runner-up to Adioson in the Rangiora Raceway Stakes in December which wassimilarly placed behind the same youngster at Methven on Tuesday, and Trade Talk, which made up a lot of ground for fourth after a slow beginning in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes, have the soundest backgrounds of the others. The club has near capacity fields to contend with throughout the programme and provision has been made to run the Temuka Handicap in two divisions.

A right of re-entry clause applied to the Invitation Stakes and the scratchings of Douglas, Early Star, Ruling Castle and Flash Maid in this event have allowed Strip. Tryax Hall and Byebye Bill to get back into the field. The forecast for today is for continued fine weather. The track at Orari is in good-order and will provide fast footing.
