GLASSWORKS AT WHANGAREI
Tenders Will Be Called Soon (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI. February 12. Tenders will be called Boon for the construction of the £500.000 Whangarei glassworks project. Orders have been placed by the McKendrick Glass Manufacturing Company for £175,000 worth of machinery and bricks and it is hoped that the major building will be roofed by February or March next year and the plaq; operating in the following May.
The Whangarei Harbour Board Is erecting the works building under a lease and purchase agreement with McKendricks. Production will be of drawn sheet glass 6ft wide and delivered cut in normal sizes.
The first year’s production is estimated at £500.000 to £600,000 worth of glass.
