Thomas Paine

Sir,—May I suggest to “R.A.P.” that if he really seeks elightenment he should read the Bible, and not merely portions carefully selected to uphold his own views. He will find much that is good in it, but also much that warrants Paine’s condemnation. "R.A.P.’s” objection to the expression of opinions that differ from his own belongs to the days of the Inquisition. As for his resort to argumentum ad hominem, this is suited only to the less intelligent of our schoolboys. To speak of Paine as “irrational” is simply ludicrous.—Yours, etc., RATIO. February 11, 1961.
