HIGHWAY WORK COMPLETED

Realignment At Three Points

Realignment work at three points on State highways north of Christchurch has now been completed, and metalling and sealing of the new surfaces is either already under w-ay »r will be undertaken soon. The elimination of a hairpin bend at McCormick’s, eight miles south of the Hurunui river bridge on the main north highway (State highway No. 1), is finished and awaits the letting of a contract for metalling and sealing, while between the Waipara river bridge and the Glasnevin railway station work has begun on metalling a stretch where a vertical curve was removed to improve the line of sight. On State highway No. 7 (the Lewis Pass road) formation of the Antills deviation south of the Weka pass has been completed and the metalling contractor begins work next week.

Work is also proceeding satisfactorily on three bridges on the Lewis Pass highway. Two-way bridges to replace temporary Bailey bridges at Williams stream and Manuka creek are under construction, while at the Hurunui river investigation and foundation work for a new bridge is well on the way to completion.
