NOT GUILTY BUT INSANE
Jury’s Verdict At Youth’s Trial (N.Z Press Association) PALMERSTON N., Feb. 9. A verdict of not guilty, on the .ground of insanity, was reached after three hours and a-quarter by a jury in the Palmerston North Supreme Court tonight in the trial ot Donald Henry Turner, aged 19, on three charges of discharging a firearm on November 10 at Tokomaru with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and one charge of car conversion.
Mr Justice Haslam ordered Turner to be kept in strict custody at the Porirua Mental Hospital at the pleasure of the Minister of Justice.
Evidence was given that Turner, armed with a .303 rifle, fired at farmers, police, dairy factory workers, and vehicles passing along the main highway at Tokomaru. About four hours later he was captured, after being wounded by a police bullet.
