JUNIOR BALLET
Formation Of Company A Junior Ballet Company has been formed In Christchurch. Children of between seven and 13, and who have had some ballet training are invited to attend auditions on Saturday in the Trades Hail, Gloucester street. Girls will be auditioned at 2 p.m. and boys at 3 p.m. One of the directors of the new company, Miss Lorraine Peters, explained yesterday that the company would be quite apart from normal ballet lessons. “We hope to have children from many different schools of dancing,” she said. They would be given weekly rehearsals to get them up to a good standard before embarking on rehearsals for a July production. “Most of the ballet talent in Christchurch is among the little ones,” said Miss Peters. Many children gave up ballet when they were in their early teens.
For the older girls there was the Christchurch Ballet Club, but she felt that there was a great need to introduce the younger children, who formed the majority of ballet classes, to the live theatre.
The company would present an annual production on a real stage, she said. This year it would be in July, but in later years it would probably be at the end of the year. Make-up classes and films on ballet would also be offered to the members of the company, said Miss Peters.
