Dianthus Girl In Third Successive Win

Dianthus Girl, unbeaten in two starts at Forbury Park last month, confirmed that form with a decisive win in the Wellington Handicap and gained her most important success to date. Trained at Southbrook by B. W. Taylor, who races her in partnership with Mrs E. Taylor, Dianthus Girl was driven by F. G. Holmes, who was associated with her in her wins at Dunedin.

Dianthus Girl drifted early, but she improved sharply at the end of three furlongs, moving into second place five lengths behind Reprimand.

Dianthus Girl whittled Reprimand’s advantage to half a length at the straight entrance, with Au Fait breaking and losing two lengths, and With You, Van Cheetah, Supervise and Highland Glen next. Au Fait made a game effort to overhaul Dianthus Girl inside the furlong, but the lastnamed did best to win by a neck. Van Cheetah battled on for third, three lengths and a half behind Au Fait and a length and a half in front of With You. Moon Boy. after being well back most of the way. finished solidly for fifth half a neck back, a head in front of Highland Glen, which was driven by Eddie Cobb. Mighty Hanover made up ground for seventh, ahead of Reprimand, Estelle, and Ordeal, which was forced four wide in spite of Delvin Miller’s efforts over the last six furlongs. Ordeal and Cat’s Luck broke in the first two furlongs.

Aquaplane Surprises

Aquaplane, a winner two starts ago at Forbury • Park, paid £2B 5s 6d when he won the Melbourne Handicap most convincingly. A. J. Bourne had Aquaplane handily placed all the way in abbut sixth position. He was handy to Queen's Glow, Gay Baron, Johnny Guitar, and Zenith racing to the straight, where he was clear of the remainder.

Aquaplane raced past the leaders soon after straightening up and he finished strongly to win by two lengths and a half.

Zenith, after breaking early, was soon fairly handy and she fought on for second, a bead in front of Queen’s Glow, the tiring pacemaker, which lasted to beat Johnny Guitar by a nose. Gay Baron was half a length back, ahead of Mulgrove. Kingsdown Patch, which tangled near the five furlongs and checked Light Mood and Zany slightly, and Zany. Light Mood. Mulgrove, Vanity Scott, Euchre, and Mystic Star lost ground in the first furlong.

Narrow Win Adios Heather and King Hal fought out a keen finish to the Three-year-old Stake,, Adios Heather winning by a nose, Wekin set the pace, but he had had enough at the three furlongs where Southern Cross Worked clear. Adios Heather was on terms with Southern Cross at the straight entrance, where Jolly Hal was more than a length back, ahead of Wekin. King Hal. Flying Note, Jay Ar. Master Alan, and Robin Dundee. Adios Heather drew clear, but was hotly pursued by King Hal, which failed by a nose to catch her. Southern Cross was a length and a half back third, a short length in front of Robin Dundee, which came home solidly a short length in front of Flying Note, which did not receive a good run. Jay Ar, last at the six furlongs, was half a length back, clear of Summit Road and Jolly Hal. Robin Dundee, Johnny Thunder, Summit Road, and Cardiogram gave ground at the start Johnny Thunder was pulled up with a damaged sulky.

At False Odds Kennoway. a winner at Forbury Park at his previous start, paid a false win dividend of £ll 2s 6d when he was successful in the Auckland Handicap. Hindu took the lead at the end of three furlongs, but she broke with three furlongs left Chances Are then took over, with Kennoway working through on the inside to shade her at the straight *ntrance, where When, Superway. Fiaounetta, and Storm Lord were the handiest of the others. Kennoway responded well in the straight and won by a length. Superway finished solidly along the rails for second, half a head in front of the hot favourite. When, which returned her supporters 18s in the £1 Chances Are was two lengths and a half back fourth, a nose in front of Storm Lord, with Fiammetta and Assure beaten off. Lavengro’s Win Lavengro was one of the slowest beginners In the Sydney Handicap, but he overcame this to win by a length under a hard drive by Delvin Miller. Miller took advantage of the slow pace at the aeven furlongs to improve sharply with Lavengro and be went from ninth to first inside a furlong. He was prcing well turning for home where he was followed by King Anjou. Alight. Autumn Folly, Bonnie Lustre. Royal Brittania. and Dark Signal Lavengro responded gamely under a hard drive and won by a length from Bonnie Lustre, which came home solidly a neck in front ot King Anjou, which had every chance. Dark Signal was beaten off fourth, followed by Alight, Florita. Dilossa. Fyvie Queen, Autumn Folly, and Royal Brittania.
