"joy of Spain.” a Spanish musical revue which opened in the St. James Theatre last night, la every bit as good as the advance publicity said it was.

Not since the Chinese National Opera Company visited Wellington in 1950 have theatregoers been treated to sueh joyously exhilarating entertainment. In fact, the show is so good that after the word goes around today there are unlikely to be any unsold seats during the rest of the season.

Stars of the show are Alfredo Gil and Pilar de Oro, a husband and wife team who. in their dance routines vividly portray every facet of the Spanish temperament.- In quick succession they are gay. haughty, despondent. fiery and comical, their actions and dancing perfectly interpreting the mood Intended. Both are expert exponente of of tapateado—the famous Spanish dance which features rapid tappint and movement of the feet—and are brilliant players of the castanet. In their supple hands the castanets talk a language the whole world would understand.
