FIREBUGS IN MELBOURNE

Reward Offered By State Government (N.Z Press fissn.— Copyright) MELBOURNE, Feb. 8 The State Government is offering a £2OOO reward to catch those responsible for Melbourne’s outbreak of church, school and public hall fires. The Premier (Mr Bolte) offered the reward today after talks with the Police Commissioner (Mr Porter). Mr Bolte said: “The reward will be paid to anyone giving information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a firebug.” Fires caused an estimated £lOO,OOO damage to Tottenham North State School on Monday and an estimated £200,000 damage to the Roman Catholic King Church and School on Friday. “It is obvious to everyone that the fires were not accidental," Mr Bolte said. “They are far too prevalent not to be man-made.”
