Nurse, might still be available for the fifth test, against Australia to begin at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. Nurse is having constant treatment for torn foot ligaments suffered while playing against a southern New South Wales side at Goulburn on Monday. Mr Gomez’s main problem when he arrived in Melbourne today with 14 members of the touring West Indies side was the weather. One of Melbourne’s longest dry spells ended today as general rain spread throughout the State. The Weather Bureau said the rain was likely to begin clearing early tomorrow. Fine and cool weather is forecast for the opening day of the fifth test.

The rain today prevented the West Indian and Australian players from practising.
