Between Overs

G. R. McAuley, the Ricearton wicket-keeper, gave a most competent display against Lancaster Park.

Very alert, McAuley took the ball cleanly and moved into position very quickly. As a batsman, McAuley showed the same neatness and good foot-work. Using his feet well, he was the only batsman to play the Lancaster Park spin attack with confidence.

The West ChristchurchUniversity captain, A. C. Timpson, with five for 73 against Bast ChristchurchShirley, continues to enjoy consistent success. Before this season, Timpson had made rather irregular appearances in senior cricket and bed not been called upon to do a great deal of bowling. He seems certain to double bis aggregate of 27 wickets up to the end of last season.

The young West Christchurch - University fast bowler, J. Cahill, continues to bowl well, but without luck. He la fast and has had several leading batsmen in trouble this season, but apart from a fine breakthrough against Old Collegians he has not produced particularly good figures. The ball which he produced to clean bowl J. W. Grocott last Saturday was typical of Cahill; even during a period of inaccuracy he is always likely to produce a delivery which could take a wicket

Two promoted second grade players, B. Bruton

and M. Randle, made a good impression for Lancaster Park in its game against Riccarton. Randle, who batted particularly well in the second innings, made 21 in each innings and each time was associated in a good partnership. Bruton, a wicket-keeper, improved as he gained confidence, making two stumpings and scoring 12 and 28. Both of these players learnt their early cricket at Linwood High School and appear to have good futures. *

With a match analysis of eight for 31, the Old Collegians off-spinner, B. A. Carpenter, was the outstanding bowler in the match against St. Albans.

Although not turning the ball very sharply oh the damp pitch. Carpenter flighted the ball well This, allied with his accuracy, was too much of a problem for the St. Albans batsmen.

★ A. C. Arneson has not made any high scores for St Albans this season, but for a player in his first year of senior cricket he has shown he untnawts the admirable traits of Concentration and determination. Against Old Collegians he batted very well and although not yet able to take command of an attack he now and then played some powerful drives and euts. With more confidence he should score many runs in senior .cricket
