NEW Y.M.C.A. IN BRYNDWR
Varied Activities Planned
A varied programme for all ages will be offered by the new Y.M.C.A. branch at Bryndwr. The £9600 building will be opened on March 11 and activities will begin on March 13.
Mr A. E. Taylor, the assistant secretary of the Y.M.C.A. in Christchurch, will be in charge of the branch. There will be a men’s and women’s badminton group at Bryndwr and a tutorial class for boys and girls from 10 years of age. An afternoon badminton club will be run for married women.
“The plan is that women can bring their children along and the mothers can take turns at playing and looking after the children,” Mr Taylor said. “Keep slim.” classes, referred to by the Y.M.C.A. as “slimnastics,” will be run for women, and “keep fit” classes for men. Indoor basketball classes are to be run for men and women together. These are mainly to train persons to coach in the game. Gymnastic classes will be run for children from the age of seven. The classes will be divided according to age groups. Primary school girls from the age of 10 will also have classes. Two Hi-Y clubs, which are for children from junior and senior high school classes will be based at Bryndwr. A young adults’ club, with persons from ,18 to 25 years, will follow recreational and educational activities.
