Hide Prices Lower
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 17. Value for hides were at a generally lower level at the opening hide and skin auction for 1961 in Auckland today. Falls averaged roughly 2d per lb and were spread through most sections of the catalogue. Abattoir hides made a top price of 23 5-8 d per lb, a fall of lid. while cow hides sold 2d lower at 19 7-Bd. Sound calf skins rose by id to a top price of 232 d.
Dry sheepskins were generally steady with numerous small fluctuations. These included a drop of l|d per lb in sound shearlings to 162 d. Sound lamb skins rose 12d to a top price of 24d per lb. The catalogue of 988 salted sheepskins evoked little Interest from the market and prices for these showed some marked falls. Sound quarter and half-wooled skins were Is 9d below their previous prices at 9s 3d a skin and 12s 9d a skin respectively.
