Cycling SIX-DAY RACE ENDS

N.Z. Pair Finish Third (N.Z. Press Association—Copvno't) BENDIGO. January 2. The Victorian. Browne, and th* Queenslander, W. Lawrie, successfully defended their top position to win the amateur *ix-day cycling race in the postponed finish at the Bendigo Show Grounds yesterday. Browne and Lawrie, who took ’over as race leader* on Friday, won with 857 sprint points. 40 more than D. Adams (Victoria) and C. Walsh (South Australia), who finished second. The New Zealand team of L. Byers and R. Thomson, who led for the first four days, lost second placing to Walsh and Adam* only half an hour before the flnish. The New Zealanders, however, had the honour of winning the final sprint of the race when Byer* defeated D. Gee. A successful finish to the race was in doubt late on Saturday when heavy rain stopped racing for four hours, and prevented th* race finishing . on schedule. Through the six day* eight riders were forced out of the race by injuries and heat exhaustion. The field covered *lBB lap*— approximately 1058 mile*—during the race.
