Poor Reply In Third Test (N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) CALCUTTA, January 1. India fared badly on the rainaffected third day of the third test against Pakistan today. When rain ended play tor the day 17 minutes after lunch, India had 147 for six In reply to Pakistan's first innings total of 301. It- lost four wickets today for the addition of 64 runs in two hours 27 minutes. India now needs five to make Pakistan bat again. There is a threat of more rain, but tomorrow is a rest day. . . . . „ India lost M. L. Jalsimha and P. Umrlgar for the addition of two runs to the overnight total of 83. Mahmood Hussain dismissed them both. Jaisimha edged a ball to Mathias at first slip and Umrlgar was caught at the wicket by Imtiaz Ahmed. V. J. Manjreka and C. G. Borde batted grimlv in an effort to restore the situation, and added 34 runs in 108 minutes before the interval. Light rain began during the interval. and it was still falling when India resumed. It lost two more wickets for the addition of eight runs in 27 minutes before heavier rain ended play for the day. Manjrekar was bowled by Fazal Mahmood after his stand with Borde had put on 60 runs in 120 minutes, and two runs later the left-handed R G Nadkarni was caught at the wicket off Fazal for one. Borde remained undefeated with 33. In Its first Innings Pakistan made 301. Mustaq Mohammed (61), Hanif Mohammed (56) and Intekhab Alam (56) were the chief scorers.
