WOMEN S CRICKET Hallyburton Johnstone Shield Matches

The second round of the Hellyburton Johnstone women’s interprovincial cricket competition began yesterday. A feature of the day waa the brilliant batting of B. Paton. 55. and D. Robertson, 37. for Otago. P. Blackler in taking five for 25 for Canterbury against Auckland, did the hat trick. Otago is In a very strong position in its game against Wellington after scoring 15© and dismissing two of the Wellington batsmen for only nine runs. The Can terbury-Auckland game was notable for its low scoring, Canterbury made 66 and Auckland had a lead of 11 runs at stumps. In the first round. Auckland and Otago gained first innings wins over Canterbury and Wellington. Results of first round matches were:— Canterbury v. Otago Continuing iu innings Canterbury could only add a further 19 runs to its total of 80 for eight before it was all out for 99. O. Williams played a valuable innings of 25 but was out trying to pull a straight ball. M. Speight opened for Otago with B. Sinclair and made a grand 61. and the latter made a forceful look-
