POST FOR NEGRO

Housing Agency Administrator (N.Z. Prtis Association—Copyright) PALM BEACH. January 1. The President-elect, Mr John Kennedy, said yesterday that the nation's national security machinery would be overhauled and streamlined after his inauguration on January 20. As a "first step,” he named a Harvard dean. Mr McGeorge Bundy, a Republican. as Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs.

He also named a negro, Mr Robert Weaver, of New York, to be Administrator of the Housing and Home Finance Agency—the highest Federal administrative position ever assigned to a negro. Mr Weaver, aged 51, is a Harvard University graduate, like many of Mr Kennedy's aides. He has long been an ardent crusader for civil rights for his race, and is chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People. His present post is vice-chairman of New York’s Housing and Development Board.
