INJURIES AT AUCKLAND
Silk Fractures A Finger (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. The captain of the touring M.C.C. team, D. R. W. Silk, is unlikely to play again for three weeks because of a hand injury he received while fielding against Auckland at Eden Park on Saturday. Silk dived to a drive and in doing so broke the little finger of his left hand and dislocated the fourth finger. Afterwards, with the two fingers taped together, Silk said he would be able to bat if needed. However, a further examination this afternoon, when the tourists were fighting to overcome Auckland’s first’ innings score, showed the fingers would have to be put in plaster. The M.C.C. manager, Mr J. H. Phillipps, said Silk was unlikely to play for at least three weeks. Two other players were injured during the two days. W. J. Stewart, the hard-hitting M.C.C. batsman, strained a leg muscle while fielding on Saturday and used a runner for the second half of his innings of 62 today.
P. B. McGregor, the young Auckland batsman, twisted his knee while catching D. R. Smith and left the field. However, both Stewart and McGregor will be able to bat if needed on the last day tomorrow.'
