DR. DORIS ODLUM
Visit By Leading Psychologist Dr. Doris Odium, a leading medical psychologist from London, will be in Christchurch in February to meet women’s groups. She win also give a public lecture. Dr. Odium, who is coming to the city at the invitation of the Canterbury Mental Health Council, will arrive here on February 15 after attending the Commonwealth meeting of the British Medical Association in Auckland. Next day she will give a lecture to women under the auspices of the National Council of women, and on February 21 will address a publie meeting in the Canterbury University Hall. Her final engagements in the city, both under the aeeis of the National Council of Women, are an informal meeting with offi-er? of women’s groups, and a lecture to professional women, including teachers, nurses, kindergartens, and nursery play centre directors, on the mental health needs of the child. Dr. Odium is a graduate of Oxford and London Universities, and the London School of Medicine for Women, and is the author of several books on mental health. She is a past president of the European League for Mental Hygiene. At present she is vie*, president of the British National Association for Mental Health and is honorary consultant for psychological medicine to the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital in London. Last year she was elected a Fellow of the British Medical Association. Dr.' Odium’s visit to Christchurch will be the opening event of the Canterbury Mental Health Council’s Mental Health Year, which is being celebrated in 1961.
