KENNEDY’S CABINET

Post For Brother (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) PALM BEACH (Florida), December 18. The President-elect, Mr Kennedy, completed his Cabinet yesterday by selecting a Los Angeles insurance executive, Mr J. E. Day as Postmaster-General. The Cabinet choices average 47.3 years of age—the lowest of the twentieth century. Mr Day is 46Mr Kennedy told a press conference it was a great pleasure to have a man with “a distinguished career in Government and business” to take over “the largest business in the world.” Mr Kennedy’s press secretary (Mr Pierre Salinger) said the United States Cabinet which had been the youngest of this century was that of Woodrow Wilson—49.9 years. The oldest was that of the McKinley Administration—6l years. President Eisenhower's Cabinet had an average age of 56.6 years when it took office in 1953. Mr Kennedy’s brother. Robert, named for the post of AttorneyGeneral, will be the youngest man to serve in a United States Cabinet this century. He is 35. The assistant Attornev-General will be Mr Byron (“Whizzer”) White, a Denver lawyer. All 10 members are married and university-educated, Reuter reported. Two appointees are Republicans. the other eight Democrats. The Treasury Secretary, Mr Douglas Dillon, and the Defence Secretary, Mr Robert McNamara, are Republicans.
