CHILDREN ON TRACTORS

It is school holiday time again and the ranks of farm children .will be swelled by many city children eager to sample the joys and pleasures of life in the country. A part of the farm that has an almost irresistible attraction for children are the paddocks where the tractor and other farm implements are working. There are bound to be many requests for rides. This holiday season, owners and operators of tractors and tractor-drawn equipment should bear in mind that a 1960 amendment to the Police Offences Act makes it an offence, with liability for a fine not exceeding £lOO, to permit a child under 12 years to drive a tractor, to ride on a tractor while it is drawing an implement, or to ride on any implement (not designed or adapted exclusively to carry passengers) drawn by a tractor.
