RESERVOIR PIPES BROKEN

Supply To Thames Borough

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 15.

A bulldozer ripped out the main pipeline to the three Thames reservoirs late this afternoon. Radio messages urging the town’s population to conserve water were broadcast tonight. No further water can enter the reservoirs until the pipe is repaired. The borough engineer (Mr H. S. Lanyon) said the pipe would be fully repaired by late tomorrow. The town had enough water stored to last four days. If people used water other than for necessary purposes, the reservoirs would not be replenished for some days.
