COMMERCIAL Markets Quiet But Steady At Close
The sharemarket was quiet at the close of the week’s trading on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, but prices were steadier than in previous days’ trading. There were more rises than falls, and most price movements were narrow. National Mortgage A had first ex bonus business at 9s 9d, compared with the cum bonus price of 10s 9d, which is equivalent to 9s lid ex bonus. Bank of N.S.W., Lane, Walker, Rudkin, J. Wattie Canneries and William Cable were also slightly easier. B.H.P. and Truth, N.Z., made the day’s best gains. N.Z. Breweries, Wright, Stephenson, Ballins Industries, M.K. Manufacturers and Reid Murray were also firmer.
