MILK ROUND LEASING
Action Against Vendors
Action against licensed vendors who have leased milk rounds without offering the rounds for sale to the lessees will .be taken early next year by the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board. “There are at present known to be nine licensees who are not fully complying with the board’s by-law of personally operating the licence or who are leasing part of their rounds,” said a report by the chairman (Mr W. E. Olds) to yesterday’s meeting of the board.
The board’s policy was that, after Court action, licensed vendors should offer their rounds for sale, with a view to reselling them to the lessees. So “’far, the board’s officers had arranged the sale of 30 rounds, said the report. Twenty-three were sold to lessees, four to new vendors and three new rounds were created by rezoning. “You can’t allow the thing to drift and people to have leased rounds,” said Mr W J. Cowles The board’s policy was to stop leasing. Some vendors had been forced out and unless vendors who were leasing rounds put their house in order, th ■ board, to be cohsistent. would have to take action.
The board had hoped that lessors and lessees would get together, said Mr G. A Franks The board should take early action to take the steps It was authorised to take.
