VENETIAN BLIND FACTORY

Work On Vagues Rd. Site Begins

Work on a new £40,000 factory for Harnish and Jordan, Ltd, has begun in Vagues road, Papanui. The factory will produce mainly the Venetian blinds which are the company’s principal product, but some of the company’s other products —awnings, blinds. folding doors, firescreens and barbecues —will be made or assembled there.

Some of the increase in the company’s capital, approved at the annual meeting in Auckland this week, is earmarked to finance the factory. It will have a floor space of 13,000 square feet, of which 8000 square feet will be for production "purposes. The .staff required for" the new factory is about 40.

Harnish and Jordan has been manufacturing in Christchurch for six years. Its present factory is in Durham street. Other South Island factories are situated in Dunedin and Invercargill. Based in Auckland, the company serves Auckland retailers from its Auckland factory. Associated companies distribute its products in the Wellington province.
