ORANGES SHIPPED FROM FLORIDA

20 p.c. Of Consignment May Be Rejected [New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 14. * A shipment of Florida oranges for New Zealand -has proved a headache for the importers, Fruit Distributors, Ltd. At least 20 per cent, of the 6000 case allocation for Auckland are expected to be rejected because of rot. Special staff had to be engaged for repacking the fruit at an Auckland storehouse. The oranges were shipped in the City of Birkenhead, which has already discharged 6000 cases at Lyttelton. “Jamaica oranges don’t come till after Christmas and it was a case of Florida oranges or no oranges for the Christmas trade," a company spokesman said. Australian navels and Valencias, which normally come to New Zealand at this time of the year, were light and early, he added.
