LANCASTER PARK PITCH
Ground Reported In
Good Condition
The main pitch at Laneaster Park is now considered to be in good condition, and all wickets should be “hard and fast” for the Plunket Shield and M.C.C. matches to be played against Canterbury this season, reported the chairman of the grounds committee of the Victory Park Board (Mr D. A. Colville) to a meeting of the board last evening. The recent addition to the park of quantities of Waikari soil had made a definite improvement and seemed to be the answer to producing a more vigorous growth there, said Mr Colville; With the heavy rain of recent weeks and manuring, the ground was now in good condition for cricket, he said.
A request from the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association that the three overseas athletes, R. Moens (Belgium), M. Bernard (France), and R. Delaney (Ireland), due to arrive in Christchurch on February 4, 1961, be booked to appear at Lancaster Park, on this date, was granted by the board.
