1960 ROYAL SHOW
Biggest Held In N.Z. The 1960 Royal Show was the largest ever held at Addington and as it exceeded the previous Royal Show livestock entry by 215 it was presumably the biggest show ever held in New Zealand, said the secretary of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association (Mr H. M. Studholme) in his report to the association’s committee yesterday. “Not only were entries large, but quality throughout the livestock section was high. The display of beef cattle has never been bettered in Christchurch and the large, high quality entry in this section is a welcome improvement,” he said. The sheep entry was also a record and the general level of quality was higher than previously, the displays in one or two breeds being outstanding. The entry for the dairy section had only been exceeded four times at Royal show’s in New Zealand. Mr Studholme said the association was given exceptionally generous treatment by the newspapers and the Broadcasting Service. The newspapers maintained the tradition of a very full cover of every aspect of the shqw. The association was fortunate in this treatment which was certainly not approached in any other centre.
