N.Z. CLERK GAOLED FOR THEFT

Stole From Sydney Firm (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, December 10. A New Zealand clerk, John Darfield, aged 35, of Rose Bay. a Sydney suburb, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment by Judge Cross in Sydney Quarter Sessions yesterday for stealing £5700 from his employer, Hecla Electrics (Sydney) Pty., Ltd. The Crown claimed Darfield “pocketed” the money between June 20 and August 31 and,lost most of it betting on racehorses. Detective - sergeant G. North said Darfield arrived in Sydney from New Zealand in May and in June joined Hecla's as a clerk.
