Rimutaka Route To Wairarapa (New Zealana Press Association) MASTERTON, Dec. 11. Slips and wash-outs on the Rimutaka highway near the summit has closed the only direct route from the Wairarapa to Wellington indefinitely. Motorists now have to go north to Palmerstop North—a 180-mile journey instead of about 50—to reach Wellington. Another big slip also occurred nearer the summit. Communications between the Wairarapa and Wellington were broken when telephone lines were = ar "? d awa y by the slip and all Wellington communication with Gisborne, Napier, and Dannevirke was also broken temporarily. Repair gangs restored the lines today.
