Three Industrial Awards
Plaques for meritorious performances in the promotion of industrial safety have been awarded to Mr C. W. Mace, “The Press," and the “Christchurch Star.” by the industrial safety committee of the National Safety Association. The awards are among the first made. They were recommended by the Canterbury branch of the association, the citation reading that the branch "fully recognises, the outstanding and continuous service you have given in the cause of accident prevention in this Dominion.
Mr Mace is a leading engineer. He is head of Mace Engineering, Ltd., in Durham street, and a vicepresident of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. He gave a paper on engineering organisation to the recent industrial convention at Auckland.
The plagues will be presented, at a function on February 1. The appointment of a second field officer of the Industrial Safety Association in Canterbury was announced yesterday by the Canterbury secretary (Mr R. T. Alston). The appointee is Mr R. W. Walker, whose last position was as a production executive of Lichfield Shirts (N.Z.), Ltd. Mr Walker’s field of activity will be. in the Christchurch area. Colombo street and areas to the eastward, including Kaiapoi and Belfast, Lyttelton and the West Coast, where he will also be responsible for promoting farm safety.
Mr Walker is an associate of the New Zealand Institute of Management, and has completed three main courses of the training—-within-industry scheme. He will begin his new duties on Monday.
