CANTERBURY TEAM
Four N.Z. Players
Included
The inclusion of four former New Zealand cricket representatives in the Canterbury eleven to meet a combined Minor and Sub-Associations’ team in a trial match at Lancaster Park, tomorrow and on Thursday, provides an interesting opportunity for some of the younger players to press their claims for Plunket Shield representation. The Canterbury team, which was announced yesterday by the chariman of the management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association (Mr J. T. Eltoft), is as'follows:— M. E. Chapple (Lancaster Park) captain, G. T. Dowling (West Christchurch-University). J. England (Old Collegians), J. Grocott (East Christchurch-Shirley), P. G. Z. Harris (St. Albans), D. J. MeKendry (Lancaster Park), R. C. Motz (Riccarton), J. St. J. Parson (Old Collegians), A. F. Raplew (West Coast). K. Thomson (Sydenham), D. C. Currie (South Canterbury). A. C. Harrison (Lancaster Park) has been selected as twelfth man.
Chapple. Dowling. Harris and Motz are the former New Zealand players who have been included in the team.
Some of the leading South Canterbury players were not available tor the Minor and Sub-Associa-tions’ team, but there appears to be considerable strength in it. A South Canterbury fixture with Southland on Friday and Saturday has clashed with the Christchurch match. The Minor and Sub-Associa-tions’ team will be as follows: A. Wright (Malvern) captain. M. Beban (West Coast). J. Blakely (North Canterbury). R. Booker (North Canterbury), G. Coull (North Canterbury), S. Goodwin (Ashburton), W. Kennedy (West Coast). R. Millichamp (Ashburton), L. Pierce (Ashburton). C. Robertson (Ashburton). G. Wright (Malvern). B. Duncan (Christchurch Suburban) has been named as twelfth man.
