FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation* —A vigorous depression is moving towards the north of the North Island from the west, and a ridge of high pressure lies to the south of the South Island. Forecast:— Marlborough Sounds.—Fresh to strong south to southeast winds; cloudy and cool, with a few scattered showers, becoming more frequent late in the day. Outlook: unsettled, with some scattered light rain. Central Marlborough, Kaikoura coast. Nelson, and Buller,—Moderate east to north-east winds; cloud increasing, with some scattered showers likely late fa the day; temperatures moderate. Outlook; unsettled, with some scattered light rain. West Coast.—Light to moderate variable winds; fine, with mild afternoon temperatures. Outlook: mainly fine. Canterbury.—Light to moderate east to north-east winds; some cloudy areas at first near the coast, otherwise fine, with moderate temperatures.
