BOYS RESCUED EXHAUSTED
Clung To Sinking Boat For 90 Minutes (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 4. Three boys were rescued exhausted from a sinking Y class yacht bear Brown’s Island by the Tamaki Yacht Club’s patrol boat on Saturday afternoon. Two of the boys were taken to Auckland Hospital by ambulance where they were treated and discharged. The third was taken home suffering from exhaustion. The boys taken to hospital were John Ward, aged 15, and Roger Clarke, aged 16, both of Remuera. The third boy was John Shrimpton, aged 16, of 136 Grafton road.
The boys had been clinging to their sinking yacht Melody for an hour and a half after it capsized off Lady’s Bay before they were noticed by a Tamaki Yacht Club official.
The boys were not wearing lifejackets and a lifejacket in the boat was lost when it capsized. The Melody was picked up late in the afternoon by the police launch Lady Shirley.
