PRESENTATION TO NAVY COMMANDER
Function At H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus Tonight Commander R. L. Laurenson, of the Royal New Zealand Volunteer Reserve, will be presented with a clasp to his volunteer decoration by the commanding officer of H.MJ4.Z.S. Pegasus (Captain J. N. Allen) at a mess dinner tonight. Commander Laurenson, who retired from the service in December last year, first joined the Navy as a paymaster-lieutenant in November, 1935. Mobilised in September, 1939, he served at Lyttelton until 1941, at H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel until September of the same year and at H.M.N.Z.S. Monowai until August. 1943. Serving in Suva until the end of 1944, Commander Laurenson was promoted to lieutenant-com-mander in November. 1943, and became a commander in 1950. In June, 1955, he was appointed an honorary aide-de-camp to the Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie). Commander Laurenson received the 0.8. E. in the New Year's Honours List in 1957.
