Good Double By P. Blackler I A fine double by P. Blackler (St. Albans), who scored 36 not out and took all 10 Western wickets for 34 runs. was the feature of the women’s cricket matches on Saturday. Other good scores were made by* J. Dalton <Mia Moa) 77. P. Moore (Technical) 62. B. Turner (St. Albans) 48. not out. A. Rouse (Mia Moa), 37 not out. and J. Goddaid (Technical). 36 not out. Mia Moa v. St, Albans B Mia Moa batted first in the match at St. James’ Park. and. with the St. Albans fielding well below its usual high standard, there was every opportunity for a big score. J. Rouse (32) and J. Dalton (77. including 11 boundaries), and A. Rouse 37 not out were the highest scorers. Dalton. although giving several chances, played her usual attacking jgame. and fully deserved her good score. P. Jarvis bowled consistently for St. Albans and took three wickets for 13. The St. Albans batsmen were unable to master the bowling, and were dismissed for 52. The highest individual score was 9. with the leading batsman. H. Steere. bowled in the first over by L. Bayliss. Bayliss. with three for 10, and J. Rouse, with three for 0, took the wickets. Teachers’ College v. Technical Only E. Armitage (10) scored double figures for Teachers’ College in its first innings of 56. against Technical. Technical showed considerable improvement in its fielding, and O. Williams gave a splendid display in this department. Some fine catches were taken. Williams (four for 12), E. Johnston (two for 5), and J. Goddard (two for 5) took the wickets. The Technical openers. J. Goddard and P. Moore, had little difficulty in passing the College score, and Technical scored 102 for one wicket, declared. Moore was run out for 62. and Goddard was undefeated with 36. In its second Innings. College fared even worse, and could total only 23. P. Moore took three wickets for 6. J. Goddard two for 3, and M. Hobson two for 3. St. Albans A v. Western Sent in to bat on a soggy wicket. St. Albans A started badly and had lost three wickets for eight when B. Turner and C. Randall became associated in a good partnership. At stumps. P. Blackler and B Turner were out. with 36 and 48 respectively, and the total was 120 for five declared. Turner has batted consistently this season, and appears to be in fine form. S. MeCaw (two for 22) was Western’s best bowler. S. McCaw, who scored 28 before losing her wicket to a fine catch by K. Wilkinson, was the only batsman to make any impression In the Western innings. P. Blackler look 10 wickets for 34 runs, to dismiss Western for 54, and give St. Albans a first-innings win.
