Teachers’ College Wins Narrowly Teachers’ College caused a minor upset when it beat the hightly-rated and hard-hitting Christchurch team in a close match in the Canterbury Softball Association’s senior women’s competition on Saturday. Kaiapoi was unlucky to lose its pitcher in its game against Hagley, and Hagley won, 22-5. Monowai A had a shutout victory over Monowai B. Results:— Teacher’s College 12, Christchurch 10. Monowai A 7, Monowai B 0. Hagley 22, Kaiapoi 5. Hagley v. Kaiapoi ' Strong batting by Hagley in its first innings brought six runs, and Kaiapoi replied with one on a hit by D. Mather. T. Tuhou then scored the only run for Hagley on a hit by L. Honeyman after hitting on and stealing second and third. Kaiapoi was scoreless with one runner on. After hitting on in the third innings J. Irving scored for Hagley on an error, and she was followed home by N. Shanks on a hit by T. Tuhou. Kaiapoi was again scoreless. Strong batting by P. Timms and N. Shanks enabled Hagley to add five runs to its total, but Kaiapoi failed to score. Hagley was three-up, three down in the fifth innings, and Kaiapoi, with strong batting by M. Wright. F. Hammer and D. Mather scored four runs in reply. Hagley failed to score in the sixth innings with loaded bases, and Kaiapoi in reply was three-up. three-down. Teachers’ College, in its last Innings, failed with one on, and Christchurch, trailing by three runs, lost its first batter to a catch. J. Phillips hit on, went to second on a fielders’ choice, stole third, and scored on a passed ball with two away. The next batter was out to a catch, for Teachers' College to win. 12-10.
