PROTECTION OF ANIMALS
New Act Pleases S.P.C.A. (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. New Zealand now had the most humane Animal Protection Act in the world, said the president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Mr C. C. Lennon), in Wellington today. In an address to the society’s annual conference, he said greater awareness of the need for animal protection had come through two national features. The first was the publicity given to the debating on the Animal. Protection Bill. The passing of this/bill was a great achievement. The Horotiu strike, during which appalling cruelty had been meted out to 4000 bobby calves, had also stressed the need for protection. But, he said, the society would have to reach to even greater heights to prevent undue hardship and cruelty to the millions of animals in the country.
