(New Zealand Press Association) • AUCKLAND, November 23 The Takapuna Borough Council will petition the GovernorGeneral to proclaim Takapuna a city on February 1 of next year This change in the borough’s status has been mooted for some years. The council has been waiting Bbth for the population to reach the required 20.000 and for some final scheme for North Shore local body amalgamation to the published by the Local Government Commission.
The matter was Jirought to a head last evening by Mr D. D Whitehead who said that theborough population had reached 20.500 last April an would be it least 21.000 now.
