TALKS AFTER ELECTION
Representations On Pay
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, November 21. The national secretary of the New Zealand Engine-drivers’. Firemen and Cleaners’ Association (Mr C. C. Couchman) said tonight that the council would not be making representations to the Government on the wages dispute until after the General Election. Mr Couchman said there were no terms to the council’s decision. Although the council was now free to approach the Government and make representations over the pay issue, it did not plan to do so. “We are waiting till after next Saturday,” he said. “We are wafting till the political scene clears itself up. We will definitely not be going to the Government.” The council had told the men that they had registered their protest and there was no point in strike action so close to an election, said Mr Couchman.
