PASSION PLAY AT EASTER
Meeting Discusses
Problems
A passion play will be performed in Christchurch during the week between Passion Sunday and Psalm Sunday. This was decided at a meeting of nearly 40 persons representing religious and drama groups of Chrstchurch. The play will be produced by Mrs Mary Clarke, ol Timaru. a well known producer and judge. Last year she presented in Timaru what was believed to be the first play of its kind ever produced in* Australia and New Zealand.
Using a series of coloured films accompanied by a musical and verbal commentary. Mrs Clarke outlined the organisation necessary for such an undertaking and showed the results possible. The meeting discussed the problems of a suitable outdoor site, the selection of an adequate cast of nearly 200, and general arrangements. Father J. Coleman who was elected convener of the organising committee appealed to the public to support the venture He said that all those willing to help in any way should get in touch* with Mrs R. O’Brien or any member of the committee. The following committee was elected:—Secretary, Miss R O’Brien; and the Rev. W. M. Hendrie 'Presbyterian Church), the Rev. P. D. L Parr (Church of England). Misses T. Fitzgerald (Catholic Women’s League) and I. Provan (Religious Drama Society), Messers B. Caygill (Methodist Church), B. Morris (Catholic Youth Movement) and W. E.
