Oriana To Carry Emigrants

Eight hundred Australia-bound emigrants will be aboard the 42,000-ton luxury P. and 0.-Orient liner, Oriana, when she leaves Southampton on her maiden voyage on December 3. The emigrants. travelling tourist class, will be treated as ordinary fare-paying passengers in what is probably the most luxurious emigration so far. Each adult emigrant pays £lo— rest of the fare being met by the Australian Government.
The Oriana is the biggest passenger liner completed in England since the war. She carries more than 2000 passengers. Late last night workmen were racing to get her ready for her maiden voyage. The Oriana has an over-all length of 804 feet. The Oriana, which at speed trials on the Arran measured mile reached a mean speed •of 30.64 knots in bad weather, will have a five-day shakedown cruise to Lisbon before her voyage to Australia, Vancouver, San Francisco, Honolulu, and Wellington.
