LIFE BOYS HOLD ANNUAL RALLY
More Than 500 Attend
“It is very pleasing to see such a large increase in attendance this year,” said the Canterbury area supervisor of The Life Boys (Mr C. Widgery) at the annual rally of the Life Boys, held at Tai Tapu on Saturday. The attendance of more than 500 was an increase of about 170 on last year.
Boys from Rangiora and Kaiapoi as well as Christchurch, attended, and there were also many parents present. The boys took part in flat and novelty races, a treasure hunt and tabloid sports, which consisted of 18 different activities. The day concluded With a musical service conducted by the Open Air Campaigners and a orize-giving ceremony. Results were:—
Flat races —Eight to nine years: G. Hunt (2nd Christchurch! 1, K. Dando (13th Christchurch) 2. Nine to 10 years: B. Rolo <Bth Christchurch) 1, P. Todoovic (10th Christchurch) 2. Ten to 11 years: O. Broomhall (13th Christchurch) 1. M. Nicholls (12th Christchurch) 2. Over 11 years: R. Lear (Ist Rangiora) 1, P. Fallon (28th Christchurch) 2.
Three-legged races.—Eight to nine years: G. Vaughan and E Edmonds 1. P. Allen and S. Ritchie 2. Nine to 10 years: D. Wood and M. Heenan 1. P. Fenwick and F. Councham 2. Ten to 11 years: D. Lewis and P. Barton 1. R. Williams and R. Giles 2. Over 11 years: M. Nicholls and S. Jones 1, P. Avery and P Fallon 2.
Treasure hunt—S. Eatwell. <3rd Christchurch) 1. The Bth Christchurch team, with 253 points out of a possible 280, won the tabloid sports. The 3rd Christchurch team was second. -
