TROTTING Fallacy Heads Cup Meeting Sires

False Step’s earnings of £7005 during the three days of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s cup meeting at Addington placed Fallap’ well clear on the list of successful sires at the meeting. Bespoke made a small contribution to Fallacy’s total, which was £7040.

Stakes and trophies valued at £30,650 were distributed at the meeting and this was shared by the progeny of 33 sires.

Light Brigade, the sire of Fallacy, again had a good meeting, his progeny gaining four wins and seven placings worth £5325, his biggest wanner being Ordeal, which gained two wins and a second worth £2420, placing- her well clear on the list of winning trotters. Lookaway did not win a race at the meeting, but three placings were worth £1325. My Chief had only two representatives at the meeting and they won £2815, placing him third on the list. Sun Chief was twice placed for £ 1550, while Kingsdown Patch earned £765 as a result of a win and two placings. My Chief is one of several stallions whose oldest progeny racing in New Zealand are four-year-olds. U. Scott’s only winner at the meeting was Arania, but his progeny gained 12 placings, bringing his total to £1950. Hal Tyrax, another sire whose oldest progeny in this country are four-year-olds, was fifth on the list. The New Zealand Derby Stakes winner, Student Prince, was his biggest winner with £995, the result of a win and two placings. He also sired King Hall, runner-up in the Derby and winner of the Riccarton Stakes. Like My Chief, Hal Tryax is fully booked this season and he has limited number of vacancies for next spring. Fallacy naturally headed the colonial-bred sires at the meeting, second place going to Court Martial, the sire of Moon Boy and Reprimand, which earned £1665.

The 1951 New Zealand Cup winner, Van Dieman, was credited with £1225, placing him eighth on the main list and third among the colonial-bred sires. Like Court Martial, he has not been extensively patronised at the stud, but he is producing a fair proportion of winners. Young Dieman and Teryman won races for him at the meeting, while Van Rush and Florita were placed. Leading Sires Leading sires at the meeting were:— Fallacy.— False Step, £7005; Bespoke, £35.
