MR NASH AT LEVIN
Economy In 1957 And Today
[New Zealand Press Association) LEVIN, November 21.
“I do not think there is anyone in this hall who is not better oft now than he was three years ago,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) in an election address at Levin tonight. About 550 were present. He was accorded a friendly reception, with few interjections. The Government had set out to avoid unemployment and had succeeded in this task when it faced economic difficulties at the beginning of its term, said Mr Nash, when citing major indus-
trial developments during the last three years. The industries would provide extra employment, and in 10 years it was reckoned that 330.000 jobs would have to be found. The Government had done as much as could be done at the present time, said Mr Nash, when referring to licensing reform. “I believe that what we have done in the amendment of the licensing laws during the recent session, if properly managed. wi|l tend to reduce the drinking of intoxicating liquor, and I think that is worth while.” To a query as to the proposed route of the Nelson railway, Mr Nash said: "I will tell them tomorrow night.” .
