KINDERGARTEN TRAINEES
Lower Acceptance ■ Age
(Neu> Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 17. Faced with a possible shortage of kindergarten teachers in the near future, the Education Department has lowered the age for accepting trainees. Regulations gazetted tonight under the Education Act, 1914, provide that candidates for training as kindergarten teachers will now be accepted if they are not less than 16 years nine months on the last day of February in the year in which they commence training. Previously the age limit was 17 years.
Girls aged 16 years and nine months must hold an educational qualification accepted by the Director of Education. The regulations also empower the Director of Education to specify from time to time what educational qualifications other than school certificate or an equivalent or superior qualification will be accepted aS a minimum educational qualification required to be possessed by a candidate.
